DESCRIPTION
OSMEO, or reverse osmosis, is a water purification system that removes dissolved solids using a fine filter that allows only water molecules to pass through. Water contains solutes, particularly salt. If two solutions of different concentrations
are placed on either side of a membrane filter, Water passes through until the two concentrations are balanced—this is the science of osmosis.
By applying hydrostatic pressure (between 20 and 90 bars), the osmotic pressure is exceeded, forcing the water to filter through the membrane. This results in a smaller volume of water (about 30%) with more diluted solutes (purer water) and a larger volume of water (about 10% of seawater).
